In my work Labor of Mourning I discuss our collective grief over history
and our collective loss of Utopia - the idea of a so-called good life and
how that might look like - after the takeover of capitalism and consumerism
in all areas of our modern life in Europe and the world. In this installation,
I have brought together two strands of my work: the relic-like handmade objects,
and my work with fashion magazines, photographs, and the collages I create
from images in magazines from the 1960s and 70s. In the 1990s, I made several
modern reliquaries before turning my attention to other work. During the lonely
period of the pandemic, I returned to the subject and created new works
to combine with my current work.
